The leadership of the County Assemblies Forum, led by CEO Lonah Losem, paid a courtesy visit to KICTANet, where they were welcomed by Dr. Grace Githaiga, the CEO of KICTANet.
The meeting focused on exploring potential areas of collaboration and understanding the work of both organizations. It also highlighted the crucial role of collaboration between government entities and civil society organizations in advancing digital development and governance in Kenya.
Dr. Grace disclosed that some of the areas proposed for partnership and collaboration align with KICTANet’s strategic plan of reaching counties when it comes to ICT development in the country—infrastructure, policy, and legal frameworks—that spur positive transformation.
Both organizations share a commitment to promoting digital development and governance in Kenya. The CAF and KICTANet discussed potential areas of collaboration, including capacity building for CAF members, digitizing information, and advocating for effective ICT policies at the county level.
CAF is a coordinating body of the forty-seven (47) county assemblies established by the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 under Article 176. Its mandate is to support the county assemblies’ performance through lawmaking, oversight, and representation.
Formed in 2023, the County Assemblies Forum (CAF) expanded the membership of its predecessor, the County Assemblies Speakers’ Forum (CASF), to include members of county assemblies.
Those present during the meeting were: Mr. Victor Kapiyo, Trustee KICTANet; Ms. Neema Mujesia, communications officer at KICTANet; Austin Munene, legal officer CAF; Dr. Grace Githaiga, the CEO of KICTANet; Lonah Losem CEO CAF; Jeremy Mutunga, legal assistant CAF; Ms. Cherie Oyier, programs officer at KICTANet; Ms. Jacinta Wothaya, Tatua Digital Resilience Fellow; David Indeje, communications officer at KICTANet; Martin Kiplagat, communications officer CAF.
KICTANet described the visitation as the “beginning of an interesting relationship.”
