The UK Government’s Digital Access Programme through the British High Commission in Nairobi, the Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports – State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy through the ICT Authority, in collaboration with the County Governments of Busia and Mandera, and KICTANet are implementing the project titled “Strengthening Digital Communities”.

The project is aimed at transforming digital communities in Kenya with a special focus on the Two Counties of Mandera and Busia. This project aligns with the UK Digital Development Strategy (DDS) 2024 -2030, focusing on Gender, Equity, and Social Inclusion around digital inclusion for all. The program aligns with the Kenya Kwanza ambitious Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) enabled by the Government Transformational Digital Agenda (GoTDA) aka “Digital Superhighway” to grow the digital economy and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals especially 4 and 5. The National Government of Kenya in the National Digital Master Plan 2022-2032 aims at training 20 million Citizens in digital skills.

NOTE: This assignment targets the Community Digital Champions (CDCs) Trained on the National Digital Skills Curriculum offered by the ICT Authority. These individuals MUST have acquired the Basic Digital Skills training based on the curriculum.

The project is recruiting potential applicants to become Community Digital Champions (CDCs) in Busia and Mandera Counties.

Target group

One MUST have been trained by any of the ICT Authority Consortium Training Partners and or other development donor-funded partners on the National Digital Skills Curriculum being offered by the ICT Authority.

Eligibility

MUST have acquired the Basic Digital Skills training based on the ICTA curriculum.

Contract Duration: 4 months

An allowance will be provided in addition to internet facilitation for those who will take up the Community Digital Champion (CDC) assignment.

Task Summary:

Community Digital Champions will cascade the ICT Authority’s (ICTA) Foundational Digital Skills curriculum to the citizens at the community level.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Training and Facilitation: Deliver high-quality training to the community on the ICT Authority Foundational Digital Skills course through person-to-person sessions.
  2. Capacity Building and Mentorship: Train Community members on Foundational ICT skills and provide ongoing support to the community.
  3. Monitoring and Reporting: Track the progress of community sensitization and provide regular updates to the project management team, as well assist in the evaluation of the impact and effectiveness of the training program through reporting tools and feedback mechanisms.

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Diploma / Degree from a recognized institution. Applicants with a certificate in Information Communication Technology from a recognized institution will have an added advantage.
  2. MUST have been trained in the ICT Authority Basic Digital Skills Curriculum
  3. MUST be committed to dedicating time to attending to the training.
  4. Can deliver Foundational Digital Literacy Skills to at least 100 people face-to-face and one-to-one basis.
  5. Have access to stable internet.
  6. Possess or have access to a digital device (smartphone, tablet, or laptop) for training purposes.
  7. Able to speak and understand the common dialects of their region in addition to English and Kiswahili.

The Community Digital Champions will be expected to: 

  1. Undertake the assessment via the SmartAcademy to qualify as a CDCs
  2. Introduce and train 100 trainees to the smart academy platform and course and mentor them throughout the process.
  3. Conduct training sessions one on one, virtual, physical or blended
  4. Provide a weekly report of their trainings as guided.

Mode of delivery of the work 

  1. The training will be conducted online/ physical incorporating virtual instructor-led training, self-paced online study and class assessment.
  2. The training will be collaborative and interactive as physical classrooms.
  3. CDCs will engage more videos, WhatsApp messaging, instant messages and share files with the trainees during and after the training sessions.
  4. A variety of delivery tools for online training will be used namely: Zoom, Cisco Webex, Microsoft Teams ,Google Meet or SmartAcademy.
  5. Trainees will self-study, monitor progress and take  a task or an assessment that will be graded by the system.
  6. Upon successful completion a certificate of completion will be issued by the Authority.
  7. Reports evaluated to determine the effectiveness of learning and training process.
