This workshop will showcase KICTANet’s OGBV map, highlighting the prevalence and impact of Online Gender-Based Violence (OGBV) in Africa. The session will give an overview of the KICTANet OGBV map, developed on the Ushahidi platform, to illustrate the scope and scale of OGBV across Africa. This will be followed by a presentation of key findings, including the forms of OGBV, affected demographics, and common platforms where these incidents occur.

To foster active participation and collaboration, the session will include breakout discussions where participants, grouped by their areas of expertise or interest, will brainstorm and share strategies for addressing OGBV. These groups will focus on different aspects such as policy development, technological solutions, and community engagement. We will also host a panel discussion featuring representatives from social media companies, big tech, law enforcement, and cross-border enforcement agencies. This diverse panel will provide multiple perspectives on combating OGBV and discuss potential collaborative efforts.

To ensure inclusivity, we will use interactive tools such as live polls, Q&A sessions, and collaborative digital whiteboards, allowing both in-person and virtual attendees to contribute equally. Feedback will be collected through post-session surveys and an open feedback forum, ensuring continuous improvement and the capture of valuable learnings. After the session, participants will have a deeper understanding of OGBV in Africa and actionable strategies to mitigate it, fostering a collaborative effort to create safer online spaces for all.
