Introduction
KICTANet in partnership with the Association for Progressive Communication (APC) is pleased to convene a one-day in-person capacity-building workshop on digital safety and privacy.
Background
The digital landscape has become an integral part of our day-to-day lives, offering opportunities for social and economic connections, expression, and empowerment. However, along with its benefits, technology presents new and emerging challenges such as technology-facilitated gender-based violence, privacy risks, online fraud, and arbitrary state limitation of fundamental rights such as the right to freedom of expression, right to access to information and the right to peaceful demonstrate and picket among other rights enjoyed online.
These challenges compromise the full enjoyment and participation of individuals online. Based on existing structural, historical, and systematic biases such as patriarchy and gender inequality, women in all their diversities are disproportionately impacted by these challenges. As a result, fewer women compared to men take full advantage of the potential technology presents to advance socially, economically, and politically. Digital safety is paramount to bridging the gender digital divide.
In recognition of the critical role digital safety plays in the bridging gender divide, KICTANet in partnership with APC has organised a one-day capacity-building workshop on digital safety and security particularly on digital safety and data privacy targeting women human rights defenders, activists, and CSOs based in Kisumu and Kakamega.
