World Radio Day: Bridging Digital Policy and Climate Justice

World Radio Day 2025, themed “Radio and Climate Change,” presents a crucial opportunity for reflection. KICTANet recognises the role of radio in disseminating information and fostering public dialogue on this urgent issue.

While KICTANet has engaged with climate change issues tangentially, notably through research on e-waste and recent discussions on “greening ICT,” a systematic approach to integrating climate change adaptation into its core digital policy work is urgently needed.

This aligns with the broader need to address the increasing convergence of digitalization and climate change according to our “Digitalisation and Climate Change: Connecting the two agendas for a just climate transition,” policy brief. KICTANet, with its expertise in tech policy and advocacy, will continue to play a role by:

  • Prioritising Climate Justice: Integrating climate justice considerations into all aspects of digital policy work, including assessing the impacts of digital technologies on vulnerable communities and ensuring equitable access to and benefits from digital solutions.
  • Fostering Collaboration: Partnering with climate justice organisations to conduct joint research and advocacy, develop resources on greening digital infrastructure, and jointly address policy processes that impact both climate change and digital rights.
  • Supporting Grassroots Action: Providing digital safety training and resources to climate justice organisations, enabling them to effectively utilize digital tools while mitigating associated risks.

This World Radio Day, KICTANet calls upon all stakeholders to recognise the interconnectedness of climate change and digitalisation. By working together, we can leverage the power of digital technologies to support climate action while ensuring a just and equitable transition for all.
